Does the Student Wellness Specialist Administer Medication?
The Student Wellness Specialist is a registered professional, registered with either the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a registered counsellor or with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP) as a registered social worker, therefore they are not licenced nor governed to administer medication or write prescriptions. The Student Wellness Specialist may recommend and refer students to an external Mental Health or Medical practitioner who would be best positioned to assist with the student’s treatment needs.
