Community outreach is a form of community engagement that addresses the development needs of a community. Outreach is often used to promote awareness, build relationships and provide access to resources, information, or services. Outreach is also intended to create opportunities for mutual learning and exchange, and to promote positive change and impact.
Community engagement initiatives are efforts designed to involve and mobilize members of a community in activities that address local needs, enhance the quality of life, and foster a sense of belonging and collaboration. These initiatives aim to build stronger, more connected communities by encouraging active participation and dialogue among residents, organizations, and institutions.
The Student Wellness Specialist on campus manages the Cares committee (student committee), who organise community engagement projects and outreach initiatives both on and off campus. The Student Wellness Specialist facilitates engagements between the students, staff and NON-Government Organisations (NGO) and implements regular community outreach programmes. Students also have the option of signing up as a volunteer to the cares committee, where students will engage directly with the communities and understand the roles and responsibilities of the cares committee.
Community engagement initiatives are designed to impart change and impact on a diverse range of communities, including but not limited to education, the environment, social welfare, animal and the corporate social investment (CSI). The National CSI project is the KHUMO project, which stands for ‘Kid Hero’s Under the Mentorship of Others’ which involves the partnership with a local school in need.
Should you wish to get involved in community engagement initiatives, please reach out to either the cares committee chairperson or the Student Wellness Specialist.
