A Class Representative is expected to:

  • Work in conjunction with the campus Head of Study Discipline/ Faculty/ School or designated academic support person who is involved with academic and operational affairs within each area of study.
  • Represent your class to individual lecturers, the campus Head of Study Discipline/ Faculty/ School.
  • Find out the concerns and issues of your class. This could include matters such as workload, timetable, course structure, assessment problems, communication concerns, deadline extensions and course material.
  • Gather information from the students about what they think is and isn’t working well.
  • Attend meetings with the campus Head of Study Discipline/ Faculty/ School or designated academic support person at least twice a semester.
  • Interact with the class, gather students’ input for meetings, and give them feedback
  • Inform, report and feedback to your class by means of meetings, and any other appropriate media.
  • Accurately report to the Campus Senior Management on any incidents that may bring the campus into disrepute.
  • Actively look for ways to solve problems faced by the students and make recommendations to the campus Head of Study Discipline/ Faculty/ School


A Class Representative is NOT expected to:

  • Be available outside of agreed consultation days and times.
  • Champion their own cause.
  • Attempt to address or resolve matter beyond their control.
  • Handle harassment matters or areas of serious conflict.
  • Assist students with their personal, emotional or psychological struggles.
