The Student Wellness Specialist and / or Student Counsellor are registered professionals, registered with either the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a registered counsellor or with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP) as a registered social worker. Therefore, the Student Wellness Specialists and / or Student Counsellor are bound by an ethical code of conduct and scope of practice.
Should the student require more long term / specialised psychological intervention, referral options will be discussed with the student to understand their preferences. The Student Wellness Specialists and / or Student Counsellors compile a list of public and private referral options, according to the professional’s area of specialisation.
The discretion of the external referral lies with the student; therefore, the student is responsible to attend their sessions, follow up, booking appointments and possibly make payments for their sessions.
