Does the student wellness specialist make referrals?

The Student Wellness Specialist is a registered professional, registered with either the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a registered counsellor or with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP) as a registered social worker. Therefore, the Student Wellness Specialists are bound by an ethical code of conduct and scope of practice.

Should the student require more long term / specialised psychological intervention, referral options will be discussed with the student to understand their preferences. The Student Wellness Specialists compile a list of public and private referral options, according to the professional’s area of specialisation.

The discretion of the external referral lies with the student; therefore, the student is responsible to attending their sessions, follow up, booking appointments and possibly make payments for their sessions.

The IIE Vega School has also partnered with an online telehealth company, called Contro. Contro is an online platform that caters for the health and well-being of all students, their services include men’s health, women’s health, general health and skin care services. This is a paid service, where all health care services are conducted by trained and experienced professionals, within a given area of speciality. Students sign up to the platform and are eligible to a 33% discount when they enter their student number. Please see the link to the Contro platform for additional information: https://www.contro.co.za/
