How do I know if I qualify for the Dean's Exam/ Resubmission opportunity?

If you are an undergraduate student and have only one module outstanding preventing you from being able to graduate, you may be eligible to apply for the Dean’s Examination/ Resubmission assessment opportunity.

What is a Dean’s Exam/ Resubmission?

A Dean's Exam opportunity is an additional assessment opportunity made available to undergraduate students who have one module outstanding to graduate. Students in this category will be afforded one additional opportunity to complete the summative assessment of that module if graduation would otherwise be possible

What are the rules regarding a Dean’s Examination/ Resubmission opportunity?

  • The Dean’s Examination/ Resubmission opportunity only applies to undergraduate qualifications.
  • The Dean’s Examination/ Resubmission opportunity does not apply to postgraduate qualifications including Honours degrees, Postgraduate Certificates, Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s degrees and Doctorates.
  • This additional assessment opportunity is reserved for graduation purposes only and is assessed through a summative assessment overriding any CASS contribution.
  • The mark will be capped at 50% and will become the final mark replacing the CASS contribution.
  • The opportunity must be taken in the first examination opportunity after all other modules have been completed. If not completed at this time, then the module must be repeated.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to check eligibility for the Dean’s Examination/ Resubmission opportunity and students who qualify must apply via the Student Hub
  • A fee of R550.00 is charged for the Dean’s sitting/resubmission opportunity
  • Where a student fails to attend the Dean’s Examination sitting, without a valid reason, they forfeit the opportunity to graduate and will have to repeat the module. Where a valid reason is provided, they may register for the Dean’s Examination again in the next cycle of examination sittings.
  • Students who have deferred their supplementary examination assessment to write in the third sitting will not be afforded a Dean’s examination in the same academic year/cycle.
