There are reasonable accommodations in place to ensure that students who have legitimate reasons for missing standard sittings/submissions are accommodated with reasonable opportunities to complete assessments.
The typical legitimate reasons and the evidence required for applications for deferred opportunities include:
1. Death of an immediate family member
(death certificate and affidavit/ birth certificate confirming the relationship).
2. Own serious illness/ injury
(medical certificate valid for the standard submission/sitting and indicating a serious illness/ injury).
3. Official Representation in a national/ international competition
(documentation from a relevant official confirming the details of the event).
4. Resident Visa renewal appointments
(proof of appointment).
5. Court appearance
(certified copy of the subpoena).
6. Victim of a crime
(a formal police crime report detailing the incident/crime and the student involvement in it and a case number).
7. National and regional unrests.
(if not widely published, documentation is required), but typically applications will be managed by
the site.
Applications for these deferred sittings/submissions must be made via Emeris Assist either before, or within five working days of the missed standard sitting/submission and are granted at the discretion of the Office of the Registrar. If a student does not apply for a deferred sitting/submission on time with the required evidence or is denied the deferred sitting, the student’s record will reflect “absent”, and the student will effectively receive 0% for the missed assessment.
For further information regarding missing an assessment, please refer to Principle 4.6 of the PDIIE009: ASSESSMENT CRITERIA, MINIMUM STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES Policy document.
