What other support measures are in place to assist students with learning or physical impairments requiring academic concession support?
Student support and assistance is fundamental to ensuring our students’ success and consequently, students who experience barriers to learning such as chronic / physical conditions, psychological or special needs, have the right, once admitted, to access services that will provide an equitable chance of success. Below is summary of other support measure and structures that are in place for all IIE students:

Counselling
The Student Wellness Specialist / counsellor is the on campus registered professional and experienced counsellor (registered with either the SACSSP or HPCSA). The Student Wellness Specialist is tasked with promoting your holistic development and wellbeing through one-on-one counselling consultations. The Student Wellness Specialist / Counsellor offers predominantly short-term counselling and psychotherapy, while abiding by strict confidentiality guidelines. The aim of counselling is to ensure that the impact of whichever personal, emotional, psychological, or academic difficulty you may be experiencing does not deter your ability to perform optimally. Counselling sessions are conducted online, face to face or telephonically and are limited to 6 sessions per student. Support to manage assessment anxiety
The are various means of support available for students struggling with assessment anxiety and performance or feeling overwhelmed. The Student Wellness Specialist / Counsellor provides one on one counselling sessions to work through a student’s personal challenges and aims to identify tools to better assist the students to cope and succeed. Support groups are available to unpack various personal experiences, challenges or successors and awareness campaigns addressed to focus on managing stress and anxiety are conducted on campus. Referrals
Students have the option to book an appointment with the on-campus counsellor / student wellness specialist, these sessions are free and confidential. However, should the counsellor identify a further need for long-term psychotherapeutic intervention, the counsellor / student wellness specialist will discuss various referrals options with the student. There are various stakeholders identified privately and publicly to assist a variety of student needs.
Additionally, students have the option of reaching out to an external partner, CONTRO. CONTRO is an online telehealth platform that provides students with access to affordable, discreet and confidential healthcare services, such a men’s health, women’s health, general health, skin care, mental health and sexual health care needs coving a range of specialist treatment options. Consultations are conducted online with a qualified registered professional. Through accessing the CONTRO platform, students can access a 33% when they identify they are registered with an IIE institution.
