What are my responsibilities as a distance learning student?

  • Read communications from VC 
  • Check emails daily 
  • Check LMS announcements from lecturers on a regular basis i.e. at least twice a week. 
  • Attend live collabs where possible 
  • Use the resources made available by your lecturers and the Library Team.  


TOP TIP #1: Manage Your Time

  • Check your timetable 
  • Write down important dates 
  • Set weekly goals 
  • Break tasks into smaller tasks 
  • Utilise to-do lists 
  • Check PAS (Program Assessment Schedule) regularly.   
  • Prioritise 
  • Avoid procrastinating 
  • Work through tasks, learning units, questions and information supplied by your lecturer.  
  • Submit assessments timeously not at the last minute.


TOP TIP #2: Set Up a Conductive Work Area


  • Have a dedicated space for your studies 
  • Have all the required tools with you:  laptop, calculator (where necessary) pen, pencil, note paper, desk lamp/light, a desk which has sufficient space to work on.   
  • Study at a quiet area away from distractions of the TV, cell phone, family, friends and pets.   
  • Have your timetable with your schedule of study time in direct eyesight.  This will assist with time management.
