What is a Master of Philosophy degree and what can I do with it?

A Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree is considered to be a research degree in which students undertake an independent research project. An MPhil is beneficial for students wanting to advance their careers in research or academia and it is often used as an important stepping stone towards undertaking Doctoral studies.

Several past MPhil students have been accepted into and completed Doctoral studies at South African and international universities. Past students have also been accepted as members of The South Africa Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
