SACE – The South African Council for Educators

SACE is the professional council for educators, that aims to enhance the status of the teaching profession through appropriate Registration, management of Professional Development and inculcation of a Code of Ethics for all educators.


Who is required to provisionally register with SACE?

In 2026, the following Student Teachers entering school-based Teaching Experience are required to submit proof of provisional registration with SACE, prior to the start of Teaching Experience Block 1:

  • Students registered for: TEXP6219/ TEIP6219/ TEXP7319/ TEI7319/ TEXP7419/ TEIP7419/ TESF7112


How do I provisionally register with SACE?

Provisional registration with SACE is completed online on the following website: https://www.sace.org.za/.


What documents do I need to provisionally register with SACE?

Undergraduate Students:

All Bachelor of Education student teachers will require the following certified documentation:

  • Copy of Id (if you are using a smart card both side of the ID is required)– South African citizens.
  • Copy of matric certificate
  • A valid Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) issued by SAPS or AfiSwitch. The PCC should not be older than six (6) months at the time of submission to SACE. A police report should accompany the PCC if your PCC indicates “SAPS verification requested”.
  • Copy proof of registration for the current academic year – indicating the name of the programme.
  • Copy of the academic record.
  • Proof of registration should be on the University letterhead and have official University stamp.
  • Proof of payment – R200

Note: All copies must be recently certified. Certification must state true copy of original and have a date stamp.


Who can assist me with my SACE Registration

Each year, student teachers are invited to attend an online workshop with SACE. In this workshop, SACE will support student teachers with their online registration. For any issues with your online registration students are required to contact the SACE offices directly. 


What proof do I need to submit once I have provisionally registered with SACE?

Once you have provisionally registered with SACE, they will issue with a confirmation letter. You will submit this to your campus TEC/ or TE Lecturer (as confirmed by your campus) prior to school-based Teaching Experience.


How do I upgrade my SACE registration once I have qualified as a professional teacher?

As soon as student teachers are qualified, they must apply to the Council to change their registration status to Full registration before seeking employment.
