
Requirements for Access into Teaching Experience:
The following are the requirements for access into school-based Teaching Experience in the Faculty of Education qualifications.
- Afiswitch Criminal Clearance Certificate: All Student Teachers are required to have a valid Afiswitch Criminal Check Certificate as accepted by SACE, on commencement of their Teaching Experience component in a school each academic year. This service will be offered across all contact campuses. Student Teachers are required to keep a copy in the administrative section of their Teaching Experience file at school.
- Provisional SACE Registration: All B.Ed Year 2 – 4 and PGCE Student Teachers must provisionally register with the South African Council of Educators (SACE), prior to commencement of their school-based Teaching Experience weeks. Students will be required to provide proof of Provisional Registration with SACE to be permitted access to their school placements. Student Teachers are required to keep a copy of their Proof of Provisional Registration with SACE in the administrative section of their Teaching Experience File at school.
- The Compulsory Lecture Attendance and Module Engagement Requirements for access into Teaching Experience: All students are required to familiarise themselves with The Compulsory Lecture Attendance and Module Engagement Requirements for access into Teaching Experience (Appendix E) and ensure that they fully understand the requirements.
- Acknowledgement of Compulsory Requirements related to Teaching Experience: All Student Teachers are required to complete sign and acknowledge the Acknowledgement of Compulsory Requirements related to Teaching Experience prior to being placed in a school for Teaching Experience. This document must be uploaded under My Portfolio on ARC on the link provided.
- Prerequisite Modules for Teaching Experience (TESF7112): The Postgraduate Certificate in Education: Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching is structured as such that the didactic elective modules in the programme:
- didactic specialisation in Senior Phase teaching,
- didactic specialisation in FET teaching,
are accredited as prerequisite modules for access on to the main School-based WIL component, Teaching Experience (TESF7112). Therefore, the didactic specialisation modules must be successfully completed, prior to the student teacher commencing school-based, work-integrated learning (Teaching Experience).
