What does FES mean?
The FES result symbol means that a student has Failed the Examination Subminimum and subsequently failed the module overall.
- Modules at NQF levels 5, 6, and 7 (undergraduate) require students to achieve at least 30% in the summative assessment. Students who achieve 28% or less will automatically fail the module due to the Failed Exam Subminimum (FES).
- Modules at NQF 8, 9, and 10 (post-graduate and LAW4) students must achieve at least 40% in the summative assessment. Students who achieve 38% or less will automatically fail the module due to the Failed Exam Subminimum (FES).
You therefore do not qualify to write a supplementary exam or submit a resubmission and will have to repeat the module in the next academic year unless you qualify for a further opportunity within policy provisions.
