The British Accreditation Council (BAC) is an independent quality assurance body based in the United Kingdom that accredits private and independent education providers across the world. BAC reviews institutions against internationally recognised standards linked to areas such as academic management, student support, teaching and learning resources, governance, quality assurance, and the overall student experience.


For students studying at The Independent Institute of Education (IIE), including Emeris, BAC accreditation provides added assurance that the institution has been externally reviewed by an international body and found to meet recognised quality standards. It reflects The Independent Institute of Education’s commitment to maintaining high standards, continuous improvement, and providing students with a credible learning environment. It also strengthens the international profile of IIE qualifications and gives students confidence that they are studying with an institution that is benchmarked against global best practice.


BAC accreditation does not replace South African registration or local accreditation requirements, but serves as an additional international endorsement of quality. It is one of the ways The Independent Institute of Education demonstrates that its academic and operational standards are aligned with global expectations.


As a BAC-accredited institution, students may submit complaints about The IIE to the British Accreditation Council (BAC) after they have exhausted The IIE’s internal complaints procedure, as set out in Section 3.8 of IIE015 Student Conduct and Discipline Policy. In addition, complaints must relate directly to the BAC’s standards for accreditation as detailed in the BAC Accreditation Handbook: https://www.the-bac.org/accreditation/accreditation-handbook/.
